The SA Botanical Garden

Published on June 19, 2019 by Erez

The San Antonio Botanical Garden welcomes guests to colorful floral displays, true-to-Texas native areas, and futuristic glass pyramids filled with exotic plants from around the world. A recent eight-acre expansion includes a new entrance with additional (free) parking, the Mays Family Display Garden, a 34-bed culinary garden, an outdoor CHEF Teaching Kitchen, and a Family Adventure Garden. Take a break from strolling the 38 acre Garden to enjoy coffee, brunch, or spirits at Rosella at the Garden in the historic Sullivan Carriage House or grab a quick snack in the Garden Gift Shop.

Advancing San Antonio’s designation as ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’ by UNESCO (only the second city in the U.S. to earn this distinction and first in Texas), the Garden’s culinary programming encourages guests to discover local fruits, vegetables, and herbs that thrive in South Texas. Join us for seasonal garden-to-table cooking demonstrations, events, and classes that honor the bounty of locally sourced foods.

Children of all ages will want to explore the Family Adventure Garden with 2.5 acres showcasing 15 spaces that encourage nature play fun. Roll down Tumble Hill, splash in the Greehey Family Foundation “No Name Creek,” play in the sand in the Secret Garden, and daydream under the shade of a majestic oak tree in the Backyard Explore.

The San Antonio Botanical Garden is open daily, 9am-5pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. General admission is $12-$9. Group discounts available.
